Overview

Hillsboro Stadium is a vibrant multi-sport venue, hosting multiple football and soccer games weekly throughout the fall — while baseball dominates the schedule all spring and summer through the adjacent Hillsboro Hops field. While players work hard on the field during each game, a different kind of work begins after the fans leave: restoring both fields and surrounding spaces to a clean, safe, and welcoming environment — overnight. 

When Atlas Facilities Maintenance was brought in to support post-event recovery across the complex, we knew expectations would be high. Fast transitions, late-night operations, and unpredictable event conditions were all part of the landscape. We embraced the challenge.

Challenges on the Ground

From the start, Hillsboro Stadium presented operational realities that required strategic action:

Demanding Schedules

Shifts from 11 PM to 6 AM made staffing a consistent hurdle, especially across back-to-back events during peak seasons. It ultimately took three months to establish a stable 4–6 person crew, including a site supervisor. During that time, Atlas prioritized consistent retraining to ensure that quality never wavered, even when teams changed. 

High-Impact Cleanups

Post-event conditions brought major recovery demands: seating waste, restroom overflow, locker room congestion, and event remnants like glitter, confetti, and discarded concessions.

Hillsboro Stadium includes 7,000 seats and 170,000 square feet of turf — creating a massive environment to reset after each event. Each shift required detailed cleaning of 12 bathrooms with multiple stalls, extensive locker room areas, concourses, and miles of seating. Crews deployed industrial blowers to efficiently clear debris under seats and manually removed finer debris to maintain a welcoming environment for returning guests.

Logistical Challenges

Trash disposal points located up to four blocks away added to the workload, but Atlas crews embraced the extra steps without hesitation, keeping turnaround times sharp.

Resource Disruptions

Periodic break-ins created temporary supply shortages. Although stadium management handled security upgrades, Atlas adapted quickly, securing backup materials and ensuring no event recovery was ever compromised.
